So a Friend Sold an NFT to Snoop
And more tales from wherever we are in this Web3 economy
It’s been, as they say, a minute. Alas, when life gives you lemons, make sure you have a zester…or whatever the saying is.
Meanwhile, we’ve watched a few things happen in this universe of #crypto that we watch, play in, and tweet about.
Let’s Start With Snoop Dogg
Bow wow wow, yippee yo, yippee yay…NFTs are definitely in the house.
The D-O-double-G has made a few dozen purchases, and taking a look at the sorts of things he tweets about, he appears to be really active in launching NFTs of his own.
But, if you want proof that we’re way early, look at the numbers above: 160 tweets? 947 likes? For an account with 19.3 million followers?
Folks, we’re super early.
What About Your Friend, Dave?
Here’s the funny-ish thing about what went down — and we’ll try to keep as much of this confidential as we can — but suffice it to say Snoop wanted a piece that my friend owned, and Snoop’s alter ego, Cozomo de’ Medici, reached out through one of the usual modern means of reaching out (Telegram, Discord, Twitter, Carrier Pigeon) and there we were.
Except I don’t think my friend knew it was Snoop til afterwards.
(Okay, Cozomo’s pinned tweet has more engagement than Snoop’s random NFT tweet; but, unless you’ve looked him up and/or are in the industry and/or are my friend, you wouldn’t have much of an idea that Snoop is Cozomo.)
This piece was part of the Miami Art Basel Monolith that Snoop collaborated on.
If you had told me before the pandemic that I’d use “Snoop,” “Art Basel,” and “Monolith” in the same sentence, I would have asked you what you were smoking.
My Own NFTs
So, yeah, I had to get in on the action. Except I was in on the action months ago; actually YEARS ago, if we want to be real about it.
No, I didn’t create the piece above. But I have owned it since…checks notes…July 2019. I did *mint* it, which might be saying something.
My first couple collections haven’t made too much noise, but the third one, called “Sketches2021,” is much more promising. Only 256 pieces have been minted and they’re “premium priced,” so they’re not cheap.
As I’ve mentioned often on the Metacoin site, this stuff is an experiment.
Alas, here’s one of the pieces from the collection; this one’s called “Jaybird.”
Anything NOT related to NFTs?
Yeah, overnight the entire market cratered, lots of folks got liquidated, and there’s a little panic here and there.
Should *I* Panic???
Well, “DYOR” and this isn’t investment advice and all that. But, no.
We got out of the trading game a couple years ago and are now dead-set on long-term projects. In other words, we’re Playing the Long Game. Sure, you can try to get on the $SHIB bandwagon or chase a DeFi scheme here or there. Or you can, as one of those trading newsletters tells us, “Let the game come to you.” (I think that guy’s a bit of a tool, but whatever.)
The answer might be somewhere in the middle: a little to play with, some parked away in things that are boring but could pay off, and some of these long-game projects could potentially make you a happy camper.
Til next time,
Dave
